With a wet windy week upon us, it’s hard to believe that summer’s just around the corner, but long sunny days are almost here and with them — camp! Choosing the right camp for your kiddo, especially when it’s their first time, is a difficult decision. The Play Lab understands how meaningful summer camp experience is. Our offerings are carefully designed by founder Magda Lahliti, pioneer of low-stimulation play spaces, based on her 15 years plus as a Montessori educator, to create a nurturing, stimulating, and enriching experience for your child unlike any other.
WHY EARLY STEAM EDUCATION THROUGH PLAY IS THE SECRET TO YOUR TODDLER’S DEVELOPMENT
As most 2-year-olds are embarking on their ABCs, children at The Play Lab are already conducting safe science experiments while creating nature-inspired art, and building spatial awareness and play through music and soccer. Here's why early STEAM-incorporated summer camp might be the best investment in your toddler's future.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) engages children in activities that encourage exploration and discovery while fostering a love for learning. Through hands-on exploration, preschoolers develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and fine motor skills while building confidence and teamwork abilities. This early exposure taps into children's natural curiosity and experimental nature, creating a strong foundation for their future success.
NATURE MEETS INNOVATION
Our proximity to McCarren Park allows us to incorporate the great outdoors into our learning adventures. Our Nature Palette and Exploration class, developed and taught by Magda, uses a unique, nature-based Montessori approach combining art with science. Its small size allows for easy play and intimacy while activities develop observational skills and pattern-recognition. Foraging in nature transforms pinecones with leaves into art, clay pots holding wild flowers into take-home vases, and colorfully-created butterflies pressed inside delicate screens.
FUN AND LEARNING GO TOGETHER IN OUR SUMMER CLASSES
2.5-4 year olds thrive in intimate settings. We keep our numbers intentionally low to ensure each child gets personal attention from expert counselors as they build their first friendships in a safe environment.
Music: Our indoor / outdoor music classes teach rhythm, pattern recognition, early math concepts, and the joy of music taught by MUSIC TOGETHER® with Treble Time Music Studio
Science: Our science classes for tots are fun and accessible, introducing basic concepts like thermodynamics and density, fostering curiosity and cause-and-effect understanding.
Art: Parents share "My shy 3-year-old now confidently explains why plants need sunlight" and "I never thought my toddler would love learning about weather." Our fun projects are filled with learning and sensory development.
Soccer: Our soccer classes build gross motor skills while developing socialization through organized games taught by our super star local dad.
IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY FOR STEAM EDUCATION
According to The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County, STEAM skills are “especially beneficial at a young age (developing) important skills like collaboration and communication while making learning engaging and fun.”
Research demonstrates that STEAM education for children is a crucial predictor of both short and long-term success, improving literacy, math scores, scholastic achievement, attendance, and socialization. Early STEAM exposure is particularly vital to these statistics. Innovative thinking skillsets also builds practical life skills, preparing young learners to take on real-world challenges and setting the stage for pre-K and kindergarten success.

TESTIMONIAL:
We enrolled my son in the summer camp program he absolutely loved it! I found it to be very high quality. In addition to open play, they also arrange activities like music, art, dance, fitness etc. so the children have a perfect combination of open play + structured activity. I have to call out two of the teachers - Haajar and Margaret - for their exceptional care and demeanor. We have another one on the way and I hope this program is still around in a few years, but in the meantime, we will definitely be back for open play throughout the year!
Thank you Margaret, Haajar and the rest of the wonderful staff for such a great experience!
